Traffic and parking on Samos
In most villages, you are not allowed to park in the main streets. Luckily, there are free parking areas everywhere, clearly signposted. Exploring the narrow Greek village streets is best done on foot anyway, as they are often too small for cars. So park safely and enjoy your walk through the charming alleys.
It’s common to see others parking along the roadside and think, “if they do it, I can too.” But beware: incorrect parking can result in fines of €30–€80. You’ll recognize the fine by a pink slip under your windshield wiper – hard to read, but official!
Traffic rules and fines
On the main road of Samos, there is a permanent overtaking ban. Usually marked by two solid lines, though not always clearly visible. Still, the rule applies: overtaking can result in a €270 fine.
Even stricter is ignoring a stop sign. Failing to stop can result in a fine of €750. Serious amounts – so always pay attention to the signs.
You may also encounter herds of goats along the way. No fine for that – just a perfect photo opportunity 😉.
